About the BertoEdAngeli Foundation
Growing up among the Igbo people of Nigeria, I was blessed to witness the true meaning of compassion through the lives of my parents, Ezinna Edmund and Ezinne Angelina Nwachukwu-Udaku. They taught me that faith is not only something we believe—it is something we live. Our home was always open to those in need, welcoming friends, neighbors, and even strangers with generosity, kindness, and unconditional love.
One of the greatest lessons they gave me came through the way they cared for my cousin Emmanuel, who lived with significant physical disabilities. At a time when many viewed disability through fear or misunderstanding, my parents embraced him as one of their own. They cared for him with patience, dignity, and unwavering love, teaching me that every person is created in the image of God and deserves compassion, respect, and hope. Long before I entered the seminary, their example had already begun shaping the mission God was preparing for my life.
As I continued my journey toward the priesthood, I experienced that same generosity from many others who believed in me and invested in my education and formation. Their kindness reminded me that when we help another person discover their potential, we are doing far more than meeting an immediate need—we are creating opportunities that can bless families and communities for generations. Those experiences strengthened my desire to serve Christ by serving others.
In 2006, what began as a simple effort to help students pursue an education has, by God’s grace, grown into the Berto EdAngeli Foundation. What started with educational scholarships has expanded into a mission dedicated to providing educational opportunities, medical assistance, healthcare initiatives, family support, community outreach, and emergency relief. Every ministry exists for one purpose—to reflect Christ’s love through compassionate action and bring hope to those facing life’s greatest challenges.
One of the Foundation’s most meaningful milestones has been the establishment of the Berto EdAngeli Medical Center, which continues to provide compassionate healthcare to those who might otherwise go without it. Along with our medical outreach, vision services, educational programs, and community initiatives, the Foundation continues to grow through partnerships with generous individuals and families who share our commitment to serving others with faith, compassion, and love.
Everything we do is rooted in the words of Christ:
“Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10:8)
Those words continue to guide my ministry and the work of this Foundation every day. Whether we are awarding a scholarship, caring for a patient, supporting a family, or partnering with a community, our goal is always the same—to restore hope, affirm dignity, and share God’s love with those who need it most.
My prayer is that we will continue walking in His footsteps, inspiring others to join us in serving those in need with faith, generosity, and compassion. Together, we can continue changing lives—one person, one family, and one community at a time.
